The PRAGA 2018 Specialized World Stamp Exhibition will be the largest European philatelic event in 2018.
It is a specialized exhibition held under the auspices of FIP and recognized by FEPA. It follows on the tradition of PRAGA international and world exhibitions, which dates back to 1938.
The exhibition will celebrate multiple important anniversaries – 100th anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia, 100 years since the issue of the first Czechoslovak stamp, 100 years since the end of the Great War, and 25th anniversary of the Czech Republic.
The last PRAGA world exhibition held in 2008 was visited by more than 40,000 people. The promoters have similar ambitions also in 2018.
The main attraction will the first-ever public display of famous post stamps – the blue and red Mauritius stamps and the so-called Bombay Cover Post Office with a pair of red Mauritius stamps, which was sold in the United States in 1968 as the most expensive philatelic item ever. All the three rarities are now owned by a Czech philatelist.
The exhibition is organized by the Association of the PRAGA 2018 World Exhibition of Post Stamps, one of the members of which is also the Union of Czech Philatelists.
The PRAGA 2018 exhibition will take place between August 15 and 18, 2018 at different venues in Prague at the same time.
Philatelic exihibits will be presented in the Clarion Congress Hotel and the Postal Museum in Prague.
Exhibits promoting Czechoslovak and Czech stamps, with a particular emphasis on the work of A. Mucha, the author of the first Czechoslovak stamps – the “Hradčany Castle” and “Falcon in Flight” issues – will be located in Mucha´s Museum in Prague.
The largest event accompanying the PRAGA 2018 exhibition will be the Expo sales event hosted by the Olympik Hotel and Conference Center, in which several dozens of postal administrations, dealers, and auction houses across the world will participate. The distance between the Clarion and Olympik hotels is a mere two subway stops, or ten minutes by car.
The purpose of the PRAGA 2018 World Exhibition of Post Stamps is to promote philately; to foster mutual relations and philatelic culture; to help cooperation among philatelists across the world; to manifest creativity and innovations in the presentation of philatelic exhibitions; and also to promote the Exponet virtual philatelic exhibition.
